With a Michelin star under his belt, Tom Aikens is moving his attention to this here city. He's only human after all. Launching a restaurant, bar and deli kinda gig, he'll be the eponymous hero at his very newest venture: Tom’s Kitchen Birmingham.
The first of its kind outside London but in the UK (Tom's got digs in Istanbul), the seven day a week, all-dayer will be found at the Mailbox, in one of the Urban Room units and based on our experience of his Somerset House edition (pictured above), it's going to make you something close to demob happy.
Expect an ardent focus on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, with British suppliers and farmers coming up trumps when it comes to the providence of the food on offer. A relaxed, informal setting will be the order of the day but with dishes that demonstrate the considerable credentials of the man at the top, like the grilled mackerel, kohlrabi puree and beets currently on offer at Tom's Chelsea eatery.
Tom's Kitchen is also big into brunch. Which makes us big into Tom. Set to open in December — did somebody say christmas party? No? Good.
