NEW FOOD HALL ANNOUNCED A DAY AFTER MAJOR RIVAL VENUE IS CANNED

As we predicted yesterday, a new food hall venue will open in the Custard Factory a stone's throw from where BOXPARK had planned and failed to launch. 

Blend Family — food hall operators with two venues in Sheffield, one in Salford Quays and one near Tower Bridge, London— has revealed plans for Alfred Works.

Named after Alfred Bird, the chemist and inventor behind custard powder (hence the name of the Custard factory) they say the venue will pay tribute to Birmingham’s industrial legacy while carving out space for contemporary culture, food, and fashion.

Alfred Works will span a whopping 17,500 sq. ft of indoor space, featuring a huge indoor food hall with 15 kitchens (say, what?), a large outdoor courtyard, immersive social gaming, and a kids’ area with a sandpit.

Outside, just across the River Rea, an additional 10,000 sq. ft of indoor-outdoor events space is included, designed to bring warmth, play, and community to the experience.

The site will also house Blend Family’s second Blend Culinary Foundation Kitchen, continuing their mission to battle growing food poverty.

The news comes just a day after Saint Paul's Market, a similar food hall venue in the Jewellery Quarter, announced its launch date of September 26 and a fortnight after food hall Society launched at One Colmore Row.

Opening date for Alfred Works is to be announced soon, probably via I Choose Birmingham ?
